"santa's wish" - tim holtz 2007
supplies needed:
craft sheet (ranger)
ink blending tool (ranger)
distress inks: antique linen, fired brick, peeled paint, vintage photo, black soot (ranger)
distress crackle paint: fired brick, old paper (ranger)
stamp set (stampers anonymous)
grungeboard (timholtz idea-ology)
paper distresser (tonic studios)
tag and embellishments
step 1: paint part of tag with old paper distress crackle paint using brush cap (apply a medium to heavy coat for larger cracks - thicker the paint/bigger the cracks). let dry & crack.
step 2: paint grungeboard piece with fired brick distress crackle paint (*tip: attach grungeboard piece to craft sheet using a glue dot so it won't slide around while painting it). let dry & crack.
step 3: ink crackled tag and grungeboard with various colors of distress ink using ink blending tool (*tip: ink tool by tapping onto distress ink pad, start tool on craft sheet and apply ink to tag in circular motion to avoid harsh ink lines and blend colors better)
step 4: stamp santa image over tag using black ink (i used black soot distress). (*note how the image fades away when stamped over crackle. if you want to image to show over crackle paint, i suggest stamping with acrylic paint vs. ink)
step 5: distress edges of tag by dragging paper distresser along edges of tag.
step 6: embellish tag with grungeboard letter and attach with brads or staples. add other found objects or embellishments to personalize.

OMG this is freakin' awesome! And I'm the first one here!!
Totally love this idea Tim! You're a champion!
I have that santa stamp, and I've been wondering what to do with it, so this is great for me!! That prize pack looks fabulous - I'm just busting to get my hands on some grungeboard!

Thanks to Julie H for pointing me in this direction. Tim, I was SO looking forward to attending one of your classes when you came to Perth, Australia about 18 months ago, but was having (minor) surgery at the time. Your blog is the next best thing!
I don't have the grungeboard yet but will have a go using chipboard. I know it's not the same, but hey that's all I have. You're so right about appreciating what we have. Thank you for sharing your talent and love of life with people the world over.
See ya mate!

Another guilty Aussie!! Love your blog!! Love your work...
Posted by: Julie | December 01, 2007 at 02:44 AM
Oh, I didn't know you were supposed to comment! We are too busy stamping....
JK It also amazes me the number of people who check out my blog and don't comment. But then again, I look at a lot of blogs thru Google reader but I don't always have the time to go to the blog to comment. Friday night, I had a little extra time so I went to all the blogs linked to mine and made many, many encouraging comments.
It's good to see you blogging.
Posted by: Jacki j | December 01, 2007 at 02:59 AM
Love your tag. Even though I've been stamping for several years I'm a newbie to your products. I bought some nearly a year ago and have yet to try them so I will LOVE any techniques you have to offer. I don't have any of the crackle but I've been eyeing it and will now purchase some. Thanks for taking the time to do the techniques. I have your blog on my Google Reader and will keep updated each time you post.

Yes, lurking here every day :)
I think I commented before... not sure!
Anyways, this looks amazing! You are such an amazing artist and it is so inspiring to watch what you've made. I really like to see how things are done, visual learner, you see ;)
Well, I'm off to the art store NOW to get some red crackle paint and get working on something this afternoon!
Thanks!

Don't very often post to blogs but since you asked nicely...
Love the idea of a technique, I never know what to do with you products if I haven't been in one of your classes. Now I can learn all sorts of things.
Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing this set. Might even persuade me to get my stuff out and have a play. I am looking forward to Australia getting the Grungeboard in and also getting the crackle paint as it seems as rare as hens teeth at the moment.

Most AWESOME!! I couldn't sleep because I knew that TODAY was the FIRST day of what I knew was going to be the beginning of my MUSE returning!! Thank you TIM. This just goes to show what an awesome, caring guy you are. You're spending alot of your "days off" to teach, share, thrill, yada, yada, yada....
I have everything needed to follow your instructions, I love all your products. I even love the smell of GB!!! It's the perfect day to play in the studio too. It's freezing outside, trying to snow, there's a turkey in the oven and I'm off of work so what could be better??? I'm thrilled to be able to follow your instructions and maybe create a wonderful piece of art. Thanks to you and your crew for sharing.

LOL I guess you are getting more comments on your blog now, huh? Regardless of whether I go in the draw to win that kit, Tim, I just wanted to leave you a message to say that your work really touches people all over the globe (I am in Australia and your fan base is huge here).
I love the way you layer your style - paint + ink + stamping + found objects. Thanks for the great tips!
